What is EFCNI?

The European Foundation for the Care of Newborn Infants (EFCNI) is a pan-European organisation and network which represents the interests of preterm and newborn infants and their families. Its goal is to improve the situation of mothers and newborn infants across Europe by addressing the following topics:

  • Preconception and maternal care
  • Treatment and care
  • Follow-up and continuing care

What role does EFCNI play in TREOCAPA?

EFCNI ensures the inclusion of the voice of parents and caregivers of preterm babies. Their aim is to inform parents and caregivers about the whole study process, accompany them and manage the Parental Advisory Board (PAB). The PAB is involved in the study to provide insights from the perspective of lived experience. Furthermore, EFCNI delivers input on study materials, produces PPI materials and communicates the study process and results in an understandable way.

EFCNI also aims to increase the knowledge of the Patent Ductus Arteriosus and how paracetamol can have a positive preventive impact on this. Generally, the organisation would like to increase awareness and support for clinical trials in neonates.
